"Tony Hancock was the comedian's comedian. When we were writing Hancock's Half Hour he told us; 'You're the writers, you write, I'm the comedian, I'll comede.' And boy, could he comede’’

-Galton & Simpson

The Tony Hancock Appreciation Society

Stone me, it's the lad himself!

Housing the world's largest collection of audio and visual material concerning Tony, the society is dedicated to finding, preserving, and promoting his works.

Members can enjoy regular meet-ups, a quarterly magazine (and digital-only supplemental), and access to the archive. We've worked hard with companies like Kaleidoscope and the BFI to ensure his work lives on its best quality possible.

What do we do?

Preservation

The society holds the largest collection of audio and visual material concerning Tony Hancock, alongside a considerable collection of physical objects associated with his life.

Promotion

Working closely with the estate of Tony Hancock, the society and its members have helped write books, organise events, restore material, and share his works with the world. We even have a podcast!

Appreciation

Our paid-up members get access to annual get-togethers, a quarterly magazine, and our considerable audio library. There's never been an easier time to appreciate the lad himself and find fellow fans.

For any aspiring documentary makers out there, the Tony Hancock Appreciation Society would make an ambitious project. The merger between THAS and the Tony Hancock Society before the turn of the millennium set us on the course we find ourselves on today.

Since then, the society has been steadily growing all over the globe. But not in a pandemic-y way. We've members from Aberdare to Australia, off to Alaska, and back to Aberdeenshire. We've even got members in non-A places too.

Just in 2022, Kevin McNally has guested for tens of thousands of fans on our Podcast, Tim & Martin co-authored with Lucy Hancock the hefty book Tony Hancock: Inside His Life in Words and Pictures,

With one event under our belt and one more on the way, there's never been a better time to be a Hancock fan. And there's never been (in our opinion) a better bunch of chaps and chapattes to enjoy his work with!
